Centenary of Scounting 2007
(Incorporating World Scout Jamboree 2007 & the 150th Anniversary of Lord Baden-Powell's birth)
Post Fiji Ltd is proud to be among many postal administrations worldwide that are celebrating the centenary of Scouting with a special issue of postage stamps.
In addition to the centenary, the year 2007 sees the
150th anniversary of the birth of Lord Baden-Powell, the founder of the Scouting movement
along with the 21st World Scout Jamboree.
The Scout movement was founded in 1907 by Lord Baden-Powell of Gilwell. Born in 1857, Lord Baden-Powell set up his trial camp of Boy Scouts at
Brownsea Island, Dorset, UK during 1st - 9tn August 1907. By 1914 experimental schemes for Wolf Cubs or Young Scouts were started in Brazil, Cyprus, Fiji and Luxembourg.
The first international Scout Jamboree took place at Olympia, London in 1920. At its closing, Lord Baden-Powell was unanimously acclaimed as Chief Scout of the World. Further acclaim followed and honours vested upon Sir Robert Baden-Powell, O.M; G.C.M.G; G.C.V.O; K.C.B; Lord Baden-Powell of Gilwell. Gilwell Park was the international training centre he had created for Scout leaders. Gilwell is still regarded as the spiritual home of scouting worldwide and is visited by hundreds of scouts every year.

In Fiji, the Scout movement was founded by Sydney Frank Marlow in 1907. Since then there have been six national jamborees organised (the seventh to be held this year), two camborees and one national venture gathering.
Fiji, with a current membership of over 4000, joined the World Organisation of the Scout Movement on
12th August 1971.
Scout in Fiji has grown from past years and it will grow in years to come and more importantly, it will always contribute towards building better leaders of our nation, Fiji.
