60th Anniversary of the People's Republic of China
Post Fiji Ltd is proud to be one of the few postal administrations worldwide that are celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the Pecple's Republic of China, with a special issue of postage stamps.
The People's Republic of China National Day is celebrated every year on October I, to commemorate it's founding on October I in 1949.
Between 1949 and 1959, military parades were held every year, and were presided over by Chairman Mao Zedong, leader of the Communist Party of China who championed their win in the Chinese CivilWar,andwhoalso ted the People's Republic of China from its estabiishme in 1949 until his death in 1976.
Th National Day is celebrated throughout mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau with a variety of government-organized festivities, induding flreworh and concerts.
This year, the 60th Anniversary is expected to be such a huge event, that it will even rival the opening of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Post Fiji, in partnership with the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Fiji, presents a commemorative stamp issue to celebrate the 60th Anniversary, which depicts symbols of China set upon tape, to reflect the close relationship that the tWO countries have shared over the years.
Peony
In China the peony Is known as the queen of flowers or the flower of I riches and honour and symbolizes wealth and distinction. It is also an omen of good fortune. Chinese peony paintings are often hung in the home for good luck and in the office for good business.
Bamboo
China is known as the Kingdom of Bamboo because it has the most bamboo of any country in the world. W^lth more than 400 species of bamboo, one third of all the known species in the world grow in China.
As early as the Shang Dynasty^i(16eh - 11th century B.C.), the Chinese used bamboo for making household articles and weapons, such as bows and arrows. Before paper was invented, slips of bamboo were the most important writing medium. Bamboo has played an important part in the spread and development of traditional Chinese culture.
Great Wall of Chlna
One of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Great Wall of Chha, was enlisted In the World Heritage by UNESCO in i 987.The Great Wall is a fortification bulk from the third century B.C till the seventeenth century ~ B.C. to protect various dynasties from the invasions of the Hunic, Mongol, | Murky and other nomadic tribes coming from the North.
This Chinese Wonder is believed to be the longest man-made structure in the world stretching across deserts, grasslands, mountains and plateaus, over an area approximately measuring 6,700 kilometers from east to west of China In Chlnese wall is called which means IO,OOO LongWail it.
Giant Panda
The only place on Earth that the Giant Panda still lives in the wild is in mountains of central China. In ancient China the giant panda was eons' ~ rare and a symbol of might and bravery.The panda has been apart of Ch : culture for over 2000 years.The Chinese people call the panda "Do xiong which means"giant bear cat" in Chinese.
Today,the Giant Panda is the logo for theWoHdWildlife Fund for Nature chose a fitting logo; after all, the Giam Paiute is one of the worms cherished yet endangered animals on Earth.
Chinese Space Technology
On October 8, 1956, the PRC opened its first Missile and Rocket Re Institution. However, there was not much news in Chinese rocketry urge 1960's when experiments with liquid-fuel rockets picked up steam.
