The
city of Sydney in Australia will host the XXVII Olympic Games, the first
of the new millennium, from 15 September to 01 October 2000; Over 10,300
athletes will compete in 28 sports and together with 5,100 officials
will make the Games the largest ever. A worldwide television audience
of 3.5 billion people will be able to witness these historic games in
our region,
of which every single event will be recorded.
The
Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC),
since it's formation in 1999, has been represented in all Summer Olympic
Games (except the 1980 Moscow Games), with the first Fiji Team competing
at the 1956 Games in Melbourne. Fiji also participated in the 1988 and
1996 winter Olympic Games and at the 1996 Paralympic Games, and will
have a team at the 2000 Paralympic Games.
