The city of Sydney in Australia will host the XXVII Olympic Games, the first of the new millennium, from 15 September to 01 October 2000; Over 10,300 athletes will compete in 28 sports and together with 5,100 officials will make the Games the largest ever. A worldwide television audience of 3.5 billion people will be able to witness these historic games in our region,
 of which every single event will be recorded.

The Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC), since it's formation in 1999, has been represented in all Summer Olympic Games (except the 1980 Moscow Games), with the first Fiji Team competing at the 1956 Games in Melbourne. Fiji also participated in the 1988 and 1996 winter Olympic Games and at the 1996 Paralympic Games, and will
have a team at the 2000 Paralympic Games.

SWIMMING - 44cents
Swimming at the Olympic Games by Fiji commenced in 1984 and at each game ever since. This year, Fiji will have one male and one female competitor, who are Gold medallists from the regional South Pacific Games and medal winners from the Oceania Swimming Championships.
JUDO - 87cents
Judokas have represented Fiji at the Olympic Games since 1984. This year Nacaniela Takayawa and Laisa Laveti will compete in the men and women's divisions in Sydney. Both athletes won Gold at the Oceania Championships, qualifying them for the Games.
ATHLETICS (TRACK) - $1.00
Fiji's track athletes are amongst the best in the island nations of the South Pacific, regularly dominating at regional competitions. Fiji will be represented in both the men and women's track events at the Sydney Olympics.
SAIL - $2.00
Fiji was first represented in Sailing at the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne, Australia and then again at the 1984 Games. Fiji has hosted several international regattas, including the 1986 World Hobie 16 Championships and the 1995 World Windsurfer One Design Championships. Tony Philips will be the sole Fiji Sailing athlete and will participate in the discipline of Windsurfing. At the time of this publication Tony is ranked 12th in the World.
